Nio (NYSE: NIO) appears to be ramping up automation at its F2 plant with the introduction of more robots for quality control.

William Li, the electric vehicle (EV) maker's founder, chairman, and CEO, shared four animated images on Weibo today showing robotic arms performing quality checks on new vehicles that have completed production.

"Nio's F2 factory has added several robotic quality inspectors, and they are smooth in the series of operations of plugging in, photographing, inspecting, and pulling out the gun, cool," Li wrote in Chinese.

Nio currently has two factories in Hefei, Anhui province -- F1 and F2 -- with the F2 factory at NeoPark in Xinqiao being its newest.

Last June, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong confirmed that the company had begun construction on a third factory, after multiple rumors circulated at the time.

Chinese EV makers' factories are highly automated, with more advanced robots being put to use as humanoid robots have been rapidly developing in recent years.

On February 22, 2024, Hong Kong-listed humanoid robot maker UBTech Robotics (HKG: 9880) shared a video on Weibo showing its Walker S robot working on an assembly line at a Nio factory.

During the training session, the Walker S utilizes its real-time image capture and transmission capabilities to participate in quality inspections of door locks, seat belts, headlight covers, and can affix vehicle logos, according to the video.

On July 6, 2024, local media outlet China Star Market reported that Kuavo, China's first humanoid robot powered by 's HarmonyOS operating system, was being tested and validated at the factories of Nio and Jiangsu Hengtong Group.

Huawei's Pangu large model and Kuavo humanoid robot would be used in industrial and home scenarios, and these efforts were being pushed forward in tandem, according to the brief report.

Kuavo, one of the products of local humanoid robot maker Leju Robotics, was unveiled at Huawei's HDC 2024 developer conference on June 21 last year.
