Chinese commerce officials met with Walmart following reports the US retail chain has asked suppliers from China to slash their prices to offset tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, Global Times reported Thursday.
Walmart's request for Chinese suppliers to slash prices puts supply chains at risk and will harm Chinese and US interests as well as US customers, the report said, citing state-affiliated media outlet Yuyuantantian.
"We will continue to work closely with them (suppliers) to find the best way forward during these uncertain times," Reuters reported separately, quoting a spokesperson for Walmart.
