Amazon (AMZN) will go to trial in September as scheduled after the US Federal Trade Commission reversed an earlier statement suggesting a delay due to resource shortages, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.
FTC attorney Jonathan Cohen said that he was wrong about the lack of resources in a statement addressed to US District Judge John Chun in Seattle, and the Commission is fully prepared to proceed with the case, which accuses Amazon of using 'dark patterns' to deceive consumers into signing up for automatically renewing Prime subscriptions, according to multiple media reports
Reuters reported that the FTC claims the case involves at least $1 billion in damages and has named several Amazon executives as defendants, though Amazon denies any wrongdoing.
Despite earlier concerns over resources, FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson reaffirmed the agency's commitment to the case, reports said.
Amazon did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
