Italian energy company Eni and Ivoirian oil company Petroci have increased gas production in Ivory Coast after completing the second phase of their Baleine project, Eni said.
Baleine will now produce up to 70 million cubic feet of gas a day, which will be allocated to meet local demand, Eni said.
Eni said that the project has now reached its oil production plateau of 60,000 barrels a day, triple the 20,000 barrels it produced under the previous phase.
Baleine is the first net-zero upstream project in Africa, Eni said. Phase one was launched in August 2023, followed by phase two in December 2024.
Phase three is currently being studied, Eni said. Eventually, the Italian energy company expects total production to reach 150,000 barrels of oil a day and 200 million cubic feet of associated gas.
