Singapore Shares Track Wall Street Gains to Close Higher; Sembcorp Industries Climbs 3%

Singapore's extended closed higher once more on Thursday, tracking Wall Street gains overnight, after the US Federal Reserve decided to hold interest rates steady.

The Straits Times Index (STI), a key benchmark for the Singapore Exchange, ranged between 3,906.01 and 3,941.98 throughout the day. It ended the session at 3,930.49, up 22.18 points or 0.57% compared to Wednesday's close.

The US central bank kept its benchmark overnight interest rate unchanged in the 4.25%-4.50% range, and hinted at two further reductions later in the year.

In company news, shares of Sembcorp Industries (SGX:U96) were up nearly 3% after its wholly owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Utilities and Sarawak Energy Services, entered into a preferred supplier agreement with Prysmian.

Mapletree Logistics Trust (SGX:M44U) rose over 2% after the trust completed the divestment of a property located in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia named Linfox, for 71 million ringgit.

Meanwhile, Top Glove (SGX:BVA, KLSE:TOPGLOV) booked an attributable profit to owners of the parent of 30.3 million ringgit in the fiscal second quarter ended Feb. 28, against an attributable loss of 51.2 million ringgit a year earlier.
