Bausch + Lomb (BLCO.TO) on Monday announced the U.S. launch of Arise, a lens fitting system that streamlines the orthokeratology lens design process.
Orthokeratology is the fitting of specially designed gas permeable contact lenses that work overnight to reshape the front surface of the eye so that the wearer can see clearly the following day after the lenses are removed.
The Bausch + Lomb Arise syncs directly with diagnostic tools that capture 3-D images of the eye to create precise lens designs in seconds to treat myopia. These lenses include the first orthokeratology lens design with toric peripheral curves approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat myopia overnight, the company said.
"Traditional orthokeratology lens fitting methods can be complex and time-consuming," said Yang Yang, president, Global Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb. "The Arise platform's streamlined fitting process will reduce chair time and increase efficiency for eye care professionals."
The company's shares were last seen up US$0.29, to US$15.64, in New York trading.
