Looking at Akamai Technologies, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AKAM ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net buyers. That is, there were more number of shares purchased by insiders than there were sold.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
The Co-Founder F. Leighton made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$3.0m worth of shares at a price of US$80.01 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$81.04. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. The good news for Akamai Technologies share holders is that an insider was buying at near the current price. F. Leighton was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.
F. Leighton bought a total of 59.67k shares over the year at an average price of US$84.41.
