Canada Can Build Up its Capacity to Fill Falling US Supply in Trade Conflict -- Market Talk

1414 ET - US-Canadian trade tensions could be a good opportunity for Canada and Canadian retailers to develop their production at home, Elisa Swern, Canadian Consumer Markets Lead at PwC, tells the WSJ. "Canada has the ability to do a lot more than they have been over the last number of years in terms of growing product and servicing different markets," she says. She uses the example of fresh produce, saying that we grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers all year round, whether outdoors or in greenhouses. While the capacity would need to catch up, she says that Canada could supply its grocers with what is currently coming from the US. "We might need to build up to it, but we certainly have the capability," says Swern. (adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
