Investment firm Regent is buying TechCrunch from Yahoo, following its purchase of PCWorld and Macworld publisher Foundry earlier in the week.

Regent said the TechCrunch deal is expected to close in the coming weeks. Terms weren't disclosed.

A TechCrunch article said the deal is structured to ensure minimal disruption to operations. "You can almost think of it more like a software update rather than a system overhaul," the article said. It said Yahoo would retain a stake in the company.

TechCrunch, founded in 2005 and sold to AOL in 2010, has drawn big crowds to its TechCrunch Disrupt conferences.

In 2021, Apollo Global Management bought a business that included Yahoo and AOL from Verizon Communications for about $5 billion. Yahoo has lost some dominance as an overall web portal but has remained popular thanks to services like Yahoo Finance and Yahoo Sports.

The TechCrunch article said "As close followers of TechCrunch already know, this isn't our first rodeo when it comes to new ownership (we all still have swag from AOL and Verizon)."
