General Dynamics was awarded a contract extension valued at up to $1.07 billion for its work on the Virginia-class Block VI submarines.
The Defense Department said Tuesday that the aerospace and defense company's work on the contract is expected to be completed by September 2035. Work will occur throughout the country, including in Sunnyvale, Calif., Florence, N.J., and Bethlehem, Pa.
Funds from the extension, which the department called an undefinitized contract action modification, will be obligated at time of award and won't expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
Virginia-class submarines are attack submarines designed to seek and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships, support battle group operations, and carry out intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, according to the Navy.
