1021 ET - Dollar Tree is getting back to its roots after branching out with its acquisition of Family Dollar. "Macon Brock [Jr.] always spoke of running clean, bright and inviting stores that exceed our customers expectations," says CEO Mike Creedon on an analyst call, referring to one of the company's founders. "With Dollar Tree as our sole focus, we can remain true to that vision and return to our roots." Dollar Tree is selling its Family Dollar business to a consortium of private-equity investors for roughly $1 billion. Dollar Tree outbid its rival Dollar General to acquire the Family Dollar chain in 2015 for roughly $9 billion. (denny.jacob@wsj.com; @pennedbyden)
