Market Chatter: Trump Denies Warning Auto Companies Against Price Hikes

US President Donald Trump denied warning automakers against raising car prices in response to his planned tariff on foreign-made vehicles, NBS News reported Sunday, citing an interview with the president.

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Trump told auto executives not to increase prices as he announced 25% tariffs on cars made overseas.

In a Saturday interview, Trump told NBC "No, I never said that. I couldn't care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American-made cars."

Trump's tariffs are set to be implemented April 2 and Trump said the levies would be "permanent," NBC added.
