Chinese autonomous driving startup Pony AI has received permission to test its robotaxi in Luxembourg as it presses its overseas expansion.

The company said late Thursday that it has received a permit from Luxembourg's Ministry of Mobility and Public Works to start testing its robotaxis. The company also established its first European hub for research and testing in Luxembourg, the statement added.

The move comes as the Guangzhou-based company scales up its robotaxi fleet size this year and hopes to reach single-unit breakeven within the next two years.

Pony AI, which was listed in New York in November, has yet to turn a profit with a fleet numbering in the hundreds.

Chief Executive James Peng has said that 2025 would be the year of large-scale commercialization for robotaxis, telling The Wall Street Journal recently that the company hopes to launch more than 1,000 robotaxis this year.

Pony AI reported a quarterly loss in its first results since going public, as spending on research and development increased nearly fivefold.

The Guangzhou-based company said Tuesday that its fourth-quarter net loss widened to $180.9 million from $20.6 million a year earlier, while revenue slid 30% to $35.5 million.
