Costco Wholesale posted higher sales in March, aided by a calendar shift that added an extra selling day to the period.
The warehouse retailer on Wednesday said sales rose 8.6%, to $25.51 billion, for the five weeks ended April 6.
Across all locations, same-store sales last month were up 6.4%. Comparable sales--which account for store openings and closings--grew at a faster rate in the U.S. than they did internationally. E-commerce sales jumped 16.2%.
Excluding changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange, overall same-store sales rose 9.1% and e-commerce sales climbed 17.5%.
March had one additional shopping day this year compared with last year due to timing of the Easter holiday, which the company said boosted total and comparable sales by approximately 1.5%.
The report comes after Costco last month notched better-than-expected same-store sales growth in its fiscal second quarter, though sales missed Wall Street's expectations.
