Comcast (CMCSA) said Tuesday its NBCUniversal entertainment conglomerate has set its sights on the UK to build the first Universal theme park and resort in Europe.
The project, still subject to planning approval, will be located on a 476-acre lot purchased by Comcast south of Bedford, which is about half an hour away from London by train, the company said.
The proposed plans include a theme park with several themed lands, a 500-room hotel, and a retail, dining, and entertainment complex, according to Comcast.
The company said it will submit a planning proposal to the UK government in the coming months, with an anticipated construction start date in 2026.
