BlackBerry (BB.TO) on Wednesday said its QNX division and autonomous driving technology company WeRide are collaborating on the advancement and deployment of software defined vehicles for automotive original equipment manufacturers and suppliers.

WeRide has used QNX to power the ADAS WePilot solution for partially automated passenger vehicles. The first project of WeRide and its strategic investor and system integrator Bosch entered into mass production at the end of 2023, equipping the Chery Exceed ES and ET models with the all-scenario, integrated intelligence driving assistance system.

The QNX(r) OS for Safety serves as a foundation for WeRide's ADAS to balance defensive driving, agile lane-changing and 360-degree obstacle avoidance capabilities.

"By integrating QNX's foundational software, we are not just improving driver assistance systems but taking a crucial step towards realizing a world where autonomous vehicles are a cornerstone of smart cities, contributing to reduced traffic congestion, lower emissions, and improved road safety," said Hua Zhong, senior vice president of engineering at WeRide.

BlackBerry's share price at last look gained 1% to US$2.90 in U.S. pre-market trading on Wednesday.
