ABx Group (ASX:ABX) said the firm and its 83%-owned unit ALCORE are progressing with the establishment of a continuous pilot plant project in Tasmania, according to a Wednesday Australian bourse filing.

The plant will seek to demonstrate ALCORE's proprietary process to produce industrial chemicals, including hydrogen fluoride, from a waste product created during the aluminum smelting process.

All key equipment for the pilot plant has been ordered and deliveries are expected late in the year. This includes the oleum plant, bath reactors, scrubbers, a cooling tower, as well as several process components.

It also engaged engineering consultants, including BFluor Chemicals, a consulting service and fluorochemical equipment manufacturing company, and Kempe Engineering, a global specialist provider of engineering solutions and asset services for aluminum smelting.

ALCORE received formal guidelines for the environmental effects report from the Tasmanian Environmental Protection Authority, after previously submitting a notice of intent for the pilot plant's development.

It also progressed talks with George Town Council regarding planning approval requirements.
