Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) today rolled out the 2025 X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), updating its highest-priced model and having it target global markets.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker announced the official launch of the seven-seat X9 at an event in Hong Kong, marking the first time it has held a product launch event outside of the Chinese mainland.

The 2025 X9 starts at RMB 359,800 ($49,190) in the Chinese mainland, the same as its predecessor, though lower than the RMB 399,800 pre-sales price announced on April 8.

Xpeng will launch the X9 MPV in Europe in the second half of 2025, the company's chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said at today's launch.

The company debuted the X9 in Hong Kong in May last year and sent the first right-hand drive version of the MPV to Thailand in February. It started taking bookings for the X9 in Indonesia in March and plans to launch the model in Bahrain as well in the second half of the year.

The 2025 X9 comes in four variants and starts at RMB 359,800, RMB 379,800, RMB 399,800 and RMB 419,800 in the Chinese mainland.

It measures 5,293 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width and 1,785 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,160 mm, the same as its predecessor.

The updated X9 is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform and the least expensive variant is powered by a battery pack with a capacity of 94.8 kWh and a CLTC range of 650 kilometers.

The variant supports 5C charging multiplier and can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as fast as 11.7 minutes.

The other three variants are powered by a battery pack with a capacity of 105 kWh and offer a CLTC range of 702 to 740 kilometers. The pack supports 3C charge multiplier and can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as fast as 20 minutes.

The two least expensive variants of the 2025 X9 are single-motor front-wheel drive models with a peak motor power of 235 kW and peak torque of 450 Nm. They can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

The two more expensive variants additionally have a rear motor with a peak power of 135 kW and peak torque of 190 Nm. They can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Xpeng has brought multiple comfort feature upgrades to the 2025 X9 in an attempt to challenge the Alphard, the Toyota model that is currently one of the most recognized in the MPV segment.

The 2025 X9 ditches the LiDAR that its predecessor had in favor of a pure vision smart driving solution, much like several other Xpeng models that have gone on sale in the past few months.

The model comes standard with free Turing AI ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

It also comes with rear-wheel steering, which allows for a minimum turning radius as low as 5.4 meters, thus increasing driving agility.

Originally launched on January 1, 2024, the X9 is the flagship model under the architecture of Xpeng's SEPA (Smart Electric Platform Architecture) 2.0, as well as the highest-priced in its lineup.

The X9 delivered 21,653 units in 2024, contributing 11.39 percent of Xpeng's annual deliveries of 190,068, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Xpeng delivered 33,205 vehicles in March, its fifth consecutive month over 30,000 units, according to data it released on April 1.

The X9 delivered 1,314 units in March, bringing first-quarter deliveries to 3,518, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

($1 = RMB 7.3149)

Xpeng's first EREV model will be developed based on the X9 MPV and will be mass-produced in the second half of this year, according to local media.
