Chevron has started oil and natural gas production in the Ballymore prospect of the Gulf of Mexico, which the U.S. now calls the Gulf of America.

The Houston-based oil company said Ballymore is the latest in a series of projects aimed at getting its Gulf oil production up to 300,000 net barrels per day in 2026.

Ballymore is expected to produce 75,000 gross barrels of oil per day through three wells that are tied back to an existing Chevron-operated facility. About 150 million barrels total are expected to be recoverable over the life of the project, Chevron said.

The prospect is located under about 6,600 feet of water that is about 160 miles southeast of New Orleans.

Chevron's U.S. subsidiary operates the Ballymore project with a 60% working interest. TotalEnergies E&P USA has the other 40%.
