This luxury travel card has some of the most prestigious perks you'll find — access to over 1,400 airport lounges, elite status with Hilton and Marriott Bonvoy (enrollment required), and spending credits worth over $1,500 in value every year. Just be ready for the hefty annual fee, which can be offset in the first year with a welcome bonus worth $800 in points. Terms apply.
Read Full ReviewLet's start with the big one: With the Amex Platinum Card's current welcome offer, new cardholders can earn 80,000 after spending $8,000 in the first 6 months. Terms apply. You may be eligible for a targeted offer that's higher than the standard. Check the card's website to find out.
Points can be worth $0.01 each when you book travel through Amex Travel, and even more if you transfer them to airline or hotel partners. That means the standard welcome offer is easily worth $800 in travel rewards, and even more if you take full advantage of Amex's transfer partners.

The Amex Platinum Card offers up to $200 back annually when you book a prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection stay through Amex Travel. Terms apply; enrollment may be required.
Even if you only travel once a year, this is an easy way to save on a high-end hotel for your big trip. It also stacks with other Amex perks like early check-in and room upgrades.
With the Amex Platinum Card, Amex will cover up to $20 per month in eligible digital entertainment services. That includes platforms like Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, Peacock, and The New York Times, among others. Terms apply; enrollment is required.
Not everyone uses all of these services, but if you're already subscribed to any of them, you might as well get reimbursed.
Walmart's premium membership service, Walmart+, costs $12.95 per month, and your Amex Platinum Card will fully cover it -- providing a value of up to $155 a year. Not bad if you're a regular Walmart customer. Terms apply; enrollment is required.
The service includes free shipping, free grocery delivery (where available), gas discounts, and even streaming with Paramount+.
The Platinum perks continue with up to $200 in statement credits for incidental airline fees like seat selection, baggage fees, and in-flight snacks when you choose a qualifying airline. Terms apply.
While it's not for use with airfare itself, this perk can add value quickly if you fly even once or twice a year.
When you add your Amex Platinum Card to your Uber account, you'll get $15 in Uber Cash each month, plus an additional $20 in December, for a total value of $200 per year on Uber rides or Uber Eats orders in the U.S. Terms apply; enrollment may be required.
As you can tell, most of these perks are aimed at frequent travelers and luxury spenders -- but almost anyone enjoying a night on the town can take advantage of some Uber Cash.
Twice a year, you'll get up to $50 back on Saks Fifth Avenue purchases -- once from January to June, and again from July to December. No minimum purchase is required, and online shopping counts, too. Terms apply.
CLEAR® Plus is a service that uses biometrics (like your eyes or fingerprints) to speed you through airport security. Amex will cover up to $199 in annual statement credits to pay for this service in full, making your next airport trip a breeze. Terms apply; enrollment may be required.
Here's how the Amex Platinum Card perks listed here add up:
Benefit | Value |
---|---|
Welcome offer | ~$800 |
Hotel credit | $200 |
Digital entertainment credit | $240 |
Walmart+ credit | $155 |
Airline fee credit | $200 |
Uber cash | $200 |
Saks credit | $100 |
CLEAR® Plus credit | $199 |
Total | ~$2,095 |
Even after subtracting the $695 annual fee, you're still looking at nearly $1,400 in net value -- not bad.
If you travel at all or already use services like Uber, streaming apps, or Walmart+, the value of the Amex Platinum Card adds up fast. And that's before you get into other fancy perks that are harder to quantify, like hotel elite status and lounge access.
It's definitely got its fair share of bells and whistles -- but if you play it right, the Amex Platinum Card can pay you back on your $695 investment and then some.
