2月18日，据知情人士透露，如果日产汽车公司社长内田诚卸任，本田愿意恢复收购谈判，以创建世界第四大汽车生产商。
内田诚现年58岁，曾是日产汽车公司内部最强烈主张与本田达成交易的人之一。然而，由于本田对日产重组的速度和财务问题的严重性感到沮丧，内田诚和本田社长三部敏宏之间的关系恶化。
据知情人士透露，本田准备在一位能够更好地处理内部反对意见的新老板领导下重启谈判。知情人士还表示，日产董事会已经开始就内田诚离职的时间进行非正式讨论。
