SES AI Corp, a leading developer of AI-enhanced lithium batteries, saw its stock soar 5.33% in the pre-market trading session on Monday. This surge came after the company unveiled the world's first battery using an electrolyte material discovered through its Molecular Universe AI efforts.
The newly introduced 2170 cylindrical cell is designed for emerging humanoid robotics and drone applications. It combines the industry-standard 2170 Li-ion cell form factor with enhanced performance from the AI-discovered electrolyte, delivering improved low-temperature operation, high-rate capability, and reduced gassing and thermal risks.
According to SES AI's CEO Qichao Hu, this AI-enhanced battery solves issues faced by traditional Li-ion 2170 cells in high-energy applications. The company believes the new cell opens up a significant market opportunity in the rapidly growing robotics and drone sectors, estimated to be worth $50 billion by 2033.
