该公司首席执行官史蒂夫·阿尔特穆斯将此次着陆称为“非正常着陆”，意在表明此次任务的目标将需要以不同于原计划的方式达成。阿尔特穆斯表示，团队认为“雅典娜”着陆器大致位于预定着陆点附近。
在登月之前，该公司首席技术官蒂姆·克雷恩表示，雅典娜号的相机在飞越南极时拍摄到了“一些非常非常棒的照片”。
