Hong Kong Stocks Closed Lower, Tencent, Alibaba and Meituan Fell 4%, Ping An Dropped Over 5%

On March 20, 2025, the Hong Kong stock market closed lower. The Hang Seng Index fell by 2.23%, the Hang Seng Tech Index decreased by 3.39%.

In terms of sectors, the Hong Kong tech stocks were notably weak. TENCENT fell by 3.80%, ALIBABA dropped by 4%, and MEITUAN decreased by 4.43%. On the other hand, the Hong Kong automotive sector showed strength, with BYD COMPANY rising by 1.73%, GEELY AUTO increasing by 1.45%, and GWMOTOR gaining 3.30%.

TENCENT fell by 3.80% after the company reported its earnings, which led to a negative market reaction.

BYD COMPANY rose by 1.73%, continuing its upward trend and hitting a new historical high, driven by strong market sentiment.

PING AN dropped by 5.01% despite the company's positive outlook on the stability and development of the Chinese capital market, as stated by its co-CEO and deputy general manager, Guo Xiaotao, during the 2024 annual performance briefing.

GEELY AUTO increased by 1.45% after reporting a significant growth in revenue and net profit for 2024. The company's revenue reached RMB 240.2 billion, up 34% year-on-year, and net profit attributable to shareholders surged by 213% to RMB 16.6 billion.

INNOSCIENCE surged by 12.93% after winning the final victory in the ITC case, with its EPC patent being invalidated.

MINIEYE soared by 22.94% after securing contracts with Volkswagen and Audi for smart cabin projects, marking its first collaboration with top-tier traditional luxury brands.
