0729 GMT - Chinese shares closed mostly lower, weighed by bank and energy stocks. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.8% to 2721.80, the Shenzhen Composite Index edged 0.05% lower and the ChiNext Price Index rose 1.2%. PetroChina dropped 1.9% and Cnooc was 2.0% lower. Among banks, ICBC declined 2.3% and Agricultural Bank of China was off 3.0%. Lithium stocks surged on a possible mining halt by CATL, the world's biggest maker of EV batteries. Both Ganfeng Lithium and Tianqi Lithium rose 10%, the maximum daily rise permitted in mainland Chinese markets. (sherry.qin@wsj.com)
