Jakarta's Air Quality Falls into Unhealthy Category Today, People Advised to Wear Masks

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Air quality in Jakarta on Monday morning, September 16, 2024, fell into the unhealthy category. As reported by Antara, with air conditions like this, Jakarta is ranked second as the city with the worst air in the world.

Based on data from the IQAir air quality monitoring site in Jakarta at 05:30 WIB (Westernn Indonesian Times), the air quality index (AQI) in Jakarta was at 148 or in the unhealthy category with PM2.5 air pollution and a concentration value of 54.5 micrograms per cubic meter.

With that AQI index, the air quality level is unhealthy for sensitive groups (people with breathing and lung problems). The public is advised to avoid outdoor activities. If people are outdoors, they are advised to wear a mask and close windows to prevent air from entering the house.

When the PM2.5 range is between 0-50, the air quality is categorized as good and has no negative effect on health. For the moderate category, the PM2.5 range is between 51-100. For the very unhealthy category if it has PM2.5 200-299, the dangerous category with a PM2.5 range of 300-500.

The city with the worst air quality is Lahore, Pakistan, at 176, third is Delhi, India (132), fourth is Tashkent, Uzbekistan (132), fifth is Dubai, United Arab Emirates (132), sixth is Kuching, Malaysia (117).

The Jakarta Environmental Agency launched an integrated air quality monitoring platform supported by 31 Air Quality Monitoring Stations (SPKU) spread across the metropolitan area.

This air quality monitoring application displays data from 31 SPKUs in Jakarta which integrates data from SPKUs owned by DLH Jakarta, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia and Vital Strategies.
