智通财经APP获悉，美国基因治疗公司Bluebird Bio(BLUE.US)宣布计划裁员约四分之一，因为这家生物技术公司面临着基因疗法公司面临的困难环境。基因疗法是一种昂贵的一次性疗法，用于治疗难治性疾病。
这家总部位于马萨诸塞州萨默维尔的公司在一份声明中表示，此举是公司重组的一部分，预计将使该公司能够专注于推出新产品，并在明年第三季度将现金运营费用减少20%。根据本月早些时候的一份文件，Bluebird拥有约375名员工。
据了解，十多年来，Bluebird一直是基因治疗的先驱，专注于严重的遗传疾病。该公司因将基因疗法从临床研究引入商业市场而受到认可，在不到两年的时间里，该公司有三种疗法获得了FDA的批准。
然而，尽管市面上有近20种用于治疗镰状细胞病和血友病等多种疾病的基因疗法已获得美国批准，但治疗成本高达数百万美元，再加上其他因素，延缓了这种疗法的普及。Bluebird一直难以将基因治疗转变为一项成功的业务，并表示对其继续经营的能力存在“实质性怀疑”。
周二美股盘前，Bluebird股价上涨1.80%。在过去的12个月里，该公司市值蒸发了84%。
首席执行官Andrew Obenshain在声明中表示：“我们正在采取果断行动，优化我们的成本结构，使公司能够吸引所需的额外资金，以释放摆在我们面前的重大商业机会。”
