Avangrid (AGR) said on Thursday that the US Department of Energy has selected it for a $425 million capacity contract for its Aroostook Renewable Project, part of the Transmission Facilitation Program.
The company said the announcement coincides with the Maine Public Utilities Commission's upcoming transmission line request for proposals to connect 1,200 megawatts of renewable energy to the New England power grid.
Avangrid said it plans to participate in the transmission line request for proposals process and would include the $425 million capacity contract in its proposal.
The Maine Public Utilities Commission will likely announce winning bids in 2025.
