TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, a Gerindra Party politician and Deputy House Speaker, said the House of Representatives (DPR) will receive the number of ministries in President-elect Prabowo’s cabinet on October 13, 2024.
According to Dasco, the DPR must be informed about the fixed number of ministries in the new government to determine the number of additional commissions in the parliament.
“The formation of DPR’s organs will commence on (October) 15 or 16,” he said on Friday, October 4, 2024.
DPR so far could not confirm how many newly-formed ministries and agencies Prabowo Subianto will submit to DPR. “With five or new ministries, one additional DPR Commission would suffice, but more than that would require two new commissions,” he said.
In addition, said Dasco, the workload of the DPR commissions is currently not on par with the number of existing partners. "Some commissions have quite a lot of partners while some have few, so we need to reorganize it,” he said.
It was previously reported that the General Chairperson of the National Mandate Party (PAN), Zulkifli Hasan, said there will be 44 ministries in Prabowo’s cabinet. The ministers, he said, will be entirely up to the president. "We know that’s the President’s right,” Zulkifli said on September 11.
Previously, the issue of additional ministers in Prabowo’s cabinet emerged after DPR passed the draft law on the amendment of Law No. 39 of 2008 concerning State Ministries.
The revision increases the 34-ministry limit to an unlimited number as long as the government requires. Hence, Prabowo’s upcoming cabinet is expected to be larger due to the lifting of restrictions on the cabinet formation.
