GFL Environmental (GFL) and Opal Fuels (OPAL) said Monday their joint venture Paragon RNG has begun commercial operations at its second renewable natural gas, or RNG, facility located at the Sampson County Landfill in Roseboro, North Carolina.
The facility has an expected capacity of around 1.6 million MMbtu annually of RNG, the companies said. If used as transportation fuel, RNG will lower fleet operating costs and prevent greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to eliminating the Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from over 900 heavy-duty trucks, according to the companies.
Opal Fuels will operate the facility and distribute the RNG as transportation fuel for GFL's fleet and other transportation clients, the companies added.
GFL was rising more than 3% premarket while Opal was inactive.
