TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Losing presidential candidate pair Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md have confirmed their attendance at the inauguration of the president and vice president of 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, on October 20, 2024.

Mahfud said that he had heard about Ganjar's intention to attend the inauguration and confirmed his own participation. He believes it is essential to respect Prabowo and Gibran as the people's chosen leaders.

“When I was a vice-presidential candidate, I believed I could contribute. However, the people determined that Prabowo was a better choice. I will respect their decision and attend the inauguration if invited by the MPR (People’s Consultative Assembly),” Mahfud said in Jakarta on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

However, he mentioned that he had not yet received an invitation to attend the inauguration, but he expressed his intention to be present.

Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud Md were presidential and vice-presidential candidates supported by PDIP in the 2024 Presidential Election. Ganjar-Mahfud ultimately lost the election, securing the last rank. In contrast, Prabowo-Gibran emerged as the first-ranked candidate, followed by another contender, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar.

Previously, MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani announced that invitations would soon be sent to the contestants of the 2024 Presidential Election. This includes former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar, former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, and former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md.

“The new MPR leadership has approved the plan to invite all of them to the inauguration event, and we will soon deliver the invitations to them,” Muzani said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
