Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Higher Ahead of September Inflation Report

Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.4%.

US equity indexes were also gaining early afternoon Wednesday ahead of the US consumer price inflation report for September.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each gained 0.6%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was 0.9% higher; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also advanced.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 0.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was up 0.7%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.9%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) gained 2.5%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 2.7%.

Commodities

Crude oil lost 1.2%; United States Oil Fund (USO) dropped 1.6%. Natural gas shed 3.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 2.3%.

Gold dipped 0.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 0.6%. Silver edged up 0.2%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dropped 0.9%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.5%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.8%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) edged higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 0.7%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also advanced. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was narrowly lower.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.7%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also higher.
