TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin delivered a farewell address during a gathering with the extended family of the Vice Presidential Secretariat (Setwapres) at the Auditorium of the Vice President's Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
On the occasion, Ma'ruf revealed his plans after retiring and moving on to another job. He also asked the Vice Presidential Secretariat to work wholeheartedly to help his successor Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
Reflecting on his tenure, Ma’ruf stressed the importance of authenticity and sincerity in his work. “I don't want it to be exaggerated. Just let it be as it is. I don't need [my image] to be polished unnecessarily,” he said.
He added that he had no intention of creating a false image. “People say that personal branding is a must. I don’t think it's necessary. I believe it’s better to just be what you are. From a religious point of view, there’s no need to make up lies. There’s nothing worse than someone who lies to Allah, so there’s no need.”
Ma’ruf further highlighted the need to maintain strong relationships and continue to build on the foundations laid during his tenure. He sought prayers for the well-being of all Secretariat employees and expressed his gratitude and apologies to all employees.
Looking ahead, Ma'ruf encouraged the Secretariat to fully support the incoming Vice President and to strive for even greater achievements in their service to the nation.
“Good luck to the new Vice President. Help him with all your heart,” said Ma’ruf, hoping that the Vice Presidential Secretariat will maintain the same level of dedication and commitment to Gibran, or even surpass it.
Previously, Ma'ruf Amin announced his intention to return to managing Islamic boarding schools and strengthening the National Awakening Party (PKB) after retiring as Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
