TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A survey by Jobstreet by SEEK recently showed that 68 percent of workers in Indonesia believe their jobs and tasks will be affected by generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI). 22 percent believe their jobs will not be affected, and the remaining 10 percent believe their jobs will disappear.

"Although some jobs may disappear, new job opportunities will emerge," said Sawitri, Country Head of Marketing at Jobstreet by SEEK, at the office in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

The survey, conducted in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), The Network, and The Stepstone Group titled "Decoding Global Talent", covered more than 180 countries globally and involved 150,735 respondents. In Indonesia, the survey gathered 19,154 workers as respondents.

The survey reveals that the utilization of AI is no longer limited to the workplace but also in daily life. More than half of the respondents in Indonesia have been using GenAI since 2023. 88 percent of Indonesian workers have heard of AI, and 38 percent have utilized AI in their work routine.

Sawitri mentioned that AI is predominantly used in companies that rely on data. She exemplified that banks utilize AI to enhance their services, from internet banking, mobile banking, to application development.

Another sector that extensively employs AI is the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies. Sawitri explained that these companies utilize AI for e-commerce trading or establishing their own e-commerce platforms. "If they do not utilize AI, they will not succeed," noted Sawitri.

Workers who are familiar with AI are predominantly aged 18-24 years, accounting for 49 percent. They are followed by the age group of 25-34 years at 39 percent, 35-44 years at 32 percent, and those aged 45 and above at 18 percent. "The younger generation tends to use AI more frequently. The youth swiftly adopt new technologies," Sawitri stated.

Workers in Indonesia use AI for various purposes, including studies and research at 41 percent, creative tasks like writing at 41 percent, and administrative tasks at 37 percent.

Furthermore, 48 percent utilize Gen AI for skills development, 46 percent for gaining general knowledge, and 36 percent for language translation.
