Singapore Shares Slip 0.9%, Tracking Broader Losses in Region -- Market Talk

0933 GMT - Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index shed 0.9% to close at 3558.88, extending an earlier decline, tracking broader losses in the region. The VIX1D Index, a measure of one-day volatility, has risen sharply, suggesting elevated uncertainty as major U.S. technology companies' earnings and economic data approach, the Saxo Strategy Team says in commentary. Among the worst performers on the benchmark index, Singapore Technologies Engineering fell 2.2%, Sembcorp Industries dropped 1.95%, and index heavyweight DBS was down 1.6%. Meanwhile, Hongkong Land climbed 11% after unveiling a new business strategy. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
