Casella Waste Systems Pinched by Slowdown in Construction Industry -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
31 Oct 2024

1900 ET - The slowdown seen in the construction industry doesn't only affect home makers, furniture retailers and mortgage lenders--among others, but also waste management companies. Casella Waste Systems had a $2 million headwind from continued lower year-over-year landfill volumes in the latest quarter, the company says. This was mainly driven by lower construction and demolition materials. Still, the company was able to offset the impact from higher prices, just like its peers. Casella Waste Systems says it rose solid waste prices by 5.5% in the third quarter. Shares drop 1.3% to $100 in post-market trading. (sabela.ojea@wsj.com; @sabelaojeaguix)
