American Financial Group (AFG) reported Q3 core net operating earnings late Tuesday of $2.31 per share, down from $2.45 a year earlier.
Analysts polled by Capital IQ expected $2.46.
P&C insurance net earned premiums for the quarter ended Sept. 30 rose to $2.06 billion from $1.86 billion a year earlier. Four analysts surveyed by Capital IQ expected $1.81 billion.
Total revenue increased to $2.37 billion from $2.16 billion a year earlier.
The company said its board set a special cash dividend of $4 per share, payable Nov. 26 to shareholders of record Nov. 15.
American Financial shares were down 1.1% in after-hours activity.
