Baidu (BIDU, Financials) introduced new artificial intelligence (AI) products, including smart glasses, a text-to-image generator, and a coding tool, at its annual Baidu World 2024 Conference in Shanghai, Reuters reported.
The AI-powered text-to-image generator, termed I-RAG, was revealed by Baidu's CEO Robin Li. It seeks to solve the problem of “hallucination,” a phenomena where AI creates replies with deceptive or non-existent parts.
Additionally, Baidu's hardware branch, Xiaodu, debuted smart eyewear packed with an AI assistant. The glasses contain cameras for picture and video capabilities and offer speech interactions using Baidu's Ernie model. This innovation places Baidu in direct rivalry with Meta Platforms' (META, Financial) Ray-Ban smart glasses, created in conjunction with EssilorLuxottica (ESLOF, Financials).
Baidu also presented Miaoda, a tool leveraging large language model (LLM) technology to produce code, allowing individuals without considerable coding expertise to construct software applications. According to Li, Baidu's Ernie model presently handles roughly 1.5 billion queries and interactions everyday, with interactions spanning from text production and question answering to larger AI applications. In August, Baidu stated that Ernie's API was processing 500 million requests each day.
Li underlined that Baidu does not seek to establish a “super app” centered on AI, a strategy differing from businesses like ByteDance, which has released many discrete AI applications.
Baidu shares fell 2.58% to $86 apiece in Tuesday's pre-market trading.
