Simmons First National's chief executive, Robert Fehlman, is retiring from the bank holding company at the end of the year to focus on personal interests and family medical issues.

Simmons First on Tuesday said its executive chairman, George Makris Jr., will take on the additional post of CEO on Jan. 1.

Makris previously served as CEO of the Pine Bluff, Ark., company from 2014 through 2022 before handing the reins to Fehlman at the start of 2023.

Simmons First said Fehlman, who joined the company in 1992, will serve in an advisory role through the first quarter of 2025.
