Wee Hur Holdings Ltd. (SGX:E3B) Stock Rockets 28% As Investors Are Less Pessimistic Than Expected

Despite an already strong run, Wee Hur Holdings Ltd. (SGX:E3B) shares have been powering on, with a gain of 28% in the last thirty days. The last month tops off a massive increase of 157% in the last year.

Since its price has surged higher, you could be forgiven for thinking Wee Hur Holdings is a stock not worth researching with a price-to-sales ratios (or "P/S") of 1.8x, considering almost half the companies in Singapore's Construction industry have P/S ratios below 0.4x. However, the P/S might be high for a reason and it requires further investigation to determine if it's justified.

What Does Wee Hur Holdings' Recent Performance Look Like?

Revenue has risen firmly for Wee Hur Holdings recently, which is pleasing to see. Perhaps the market is expecting this decent revenue performance to beat out the industry over the near term, which has kept the P/S propped up. You'd really hope so, otherwise you're paying a pretty hefty price for no particular reason.

Is There Enough Revenue Growth Forecasted For Wee Hur Holdings?

Wee Hur Holdings' P/S ratio would be typical for a company that's expected to deliver solid growth, and importantly, perform better than the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 11% last year. This was backed up an excellent period prior to see revenue up by 34% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the revenue growth recently has been superb for the company.

Comparing that to the industry, which is predicted to deliver 13% growth in the next 12 months, the company's momentum is weaker, based on recent medium-term annualised revenue results.

With this in mind, we find it worrying that Wee Hur Holdings' P/S exceeds that of its industry peers. It seems most investors are ignoring the fairly limited recent growth rates and are hoping for a turnaround in the company's business prospects. There's a good chance existing shareholders are setting themselves up for future disappointment if the P/S falls to levels more in line with recent growth rates.

What Does Wee Hur Holdings' P/S Mean For Investors?

Wee Hur Holdings shares have taken a big step in a northerly direction, but its P/S is elevated as a result. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

The fact that Wee Hur Holdings currently trades on a higher P/S relative to the industry is an oddity, since its recent three-year growth is lower than the wider industry forecast. Right now we aren't comfortable with the high P/S as this revenue performance isn't likely to support such positive sentiment for long. Unless the recent medium-term conditions improve markedly, it's very challenging to accept these the share price as being reasonable.
