WisdomTree, Inc. (NYSE:WT) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Founder, Jonathan Steinberg, recently bought a whopping US$736k worth of stock, at a price of US$10.84. While that only increased their holding size by 0.7%, it is still a big swing by our standards.

In fact, the recent purchase by Founder Jonathan Steinberg was not their only acquisition of WisdomTree shares this year. Earlier in the year, they paid US$7.20 per share in a US$2.2m purchase. Although we like to see insider buying, we note that this large purchase was at significantly below the recent price of US$11.47. Because it occurred at a lower valuation, it doesn't tell us much about whether insiders might find today's price attractive.
Jonathan Steinberg purchased 371.65k shares over the year. The average price per share was US$7.86. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
The recent insider purchase is heartening. And the longer term insider transactions also give us confidence.
