QA Summary

Question Answer
Ticker DAVE, please Way extended from a proper buy point, but one to watch with the recent strength
Chris, can you give me an update on your CAVA put please I closed it out much too early yesterday.
Can you analyze LOAR please? We reviewed yesterday — was all over the place! And looks up pre market. I wouldn't be a buyer here but I could see some buying as a bounce off the 50-day/10-week
Good morning from Louisiana. Hatman I have a couple of spare Saints hats if you need one for this weekend. Ha!! GM Steve, that is too funny. You are very generous, best to share with true Saints fans. Ken has suggested I prepare my brown paper bag mask to wear the rest of the season!
GM everyone Hey Antonio!
AEM in a weakening pattern? Any way that it is the start of a double bottom? It does look like it's weakening. Maybe 8 weeks from now we will look back and this will have been the start of a double bottom. But we don't know that. Sharp breaks of the 10-week line can signal the end of a stock's move or a base-building
period.
Bitcoin plays, BITU GBTC CLSK, CLSK dipped yesterday is this s buy IBIT is what I'm in — was buying the breakout last Wednesday. That was the ideal time to buy
Ed establishing authority early on! good morning! Always brings the heat. Morning Kurt!
GM! Go Dodgers! +1
Audio working?? Yes, audio is working! Check on your end 🙂
What happened to CAVA earnings gap up?? Any news? Thanks and Good Morning I didn't see any news. Lots of price target hikes. Looks like some big investors wanted to lock in some profits.
Good morning! GM Giannina, welcome to the show!
I would like to have your take on ELF after earnings Such a beaten-down stock. I would look for a stock in an uptrend with a 50-day that's above the 200-day moving average
Seems like many of these beaten down stocks are popping on earnings Lots of wild action this earnings season
NU getting hit Yes, team will def discuss but for those who own, keep in mind the sell signals and strategies we talk about all the time. Break of 50-day warrans at least a partial trim here in my view, then see if it can hold the opening lows and find support,
if not, keep selling
"Beat and Raise quarters" Please tell how to use MarketSurge to interpret quarterly earnings data. When is Market surge updated? I see the earnings surprise indication when I hover over the earnings. Is Raised or lowered guidance indicated
witht the arrows in the Weekly chart table on the left? When is that updated?
The earnings surprise tells you the beat. If they raised guidance, that's not on the chart. The arrows indicate if analyst estimates have been raised/lowered. Best place to get detailed earnings info is in IBD, WSJ, Barron's and MarketWatch
stories covering earnings
Do you guys check the RSI? RSI is a popular tool, but I don't. A stock's relative strength line (daily, weekly chart) basically gives the same info
Good morning! Arnie, I enjoyed your webinar with Scott on Holding Stocks. It's a lot harder to do in this current market! Thanks Joseph, Appreciate the comments
Good Morning All. Could we look at FAS, NVDA, & SPXL. All of those look like holds to me. Full disclosure I own NVDA
GM from Cape Cod. HNST and HIMS selling off pre market because AMZN is getting into the Healthcare business. good stuff, Phil. Thanks
Good morning - Back in the summer there was talk about STTK, what are your thoughts now with earnings to be reported next week? This is a very beaten down stock that I would avoid. We look for quality (usually above $10 per share or more) and stocks with liquidity, that are in uptrends, and ideally with strong fundamentals.
I was up 9.5% and have my stop set below that level. Funny Hatman 🙂
Private: Ed- With the Zoom upgrade you defaulted to Show Speaker, instead of Gallery. Fixed!
GM all. Looking forward to the show. Please discuss the action of CAVA yesterday. Yeah I don't like that at all. But my rule was to look at the weekly and focus on the 10-week line. Only time will tell if that's the best strategy in the long run — but for now, taking the gift yesterday at the open would've been a great
call!
LUNr earnings Looks like it got halted but I'm not sure — wild action so far this morning
Alot of stocks churning Ken and I were noticing some of that too, good point Phil. Sell rules need respect too. https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/how-to-handle-stock-market-expectations/ + https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/when-to-sell-stocks-big-break-below-50-day-line-can-mark-end-of-a-huge-run/
Hi! Hi Ray! Welcome to the show.
Who put Ali in Dark Ops? When she's not hosting, she's usually in dark ops!
Please share thoughts on PLNT & NET PLNT looks great, holding the gap. NET tried to break out yesterday but is pulling back. still holding the 21-day but the action has been wild lately and I prefer something that's more orderly
I lvoe Ed but Ali is the glue that holds it together We have an amazing team! 🙂
ARNIE - Great work, you and Scott, on your webinar, "How to hold a winning stock". Monthly charts...yeah, baby! 🙂 Thanks , Ken ... Appreciate the comments .
Can we discuss NU? In a buy zone, seems like a good earnings report, but down a lot this morning. Team discussing now
any news HIMS down 12% Looks like Amazon has introduced a low upfront pricing for its telehealth and medication plan.
SYK, on the edge of being buyable? Technically right at the top of the buy zone but too streetched for me given that this is a sleepy stock that hasn'toutperformed SPY since 2019
Please share thougths on ETF XBI Not liking how the relative strength line has weakened this week. I would personally be looking elsewhere for now.
LMND. ZG please, thanks Both are extended from proper buy points, the time to buy was right after earnings. They look like holds for those who own them to me
NU, not looking great after good results... Chris are you still following this? live answered
CAVA Disappointing no doubt. But I will continue to hold as long as it holds above the 10-week.
Just look at the tight action back in October, just before it sold off late into the month, probably due for the same type of action Never know! Still looks pretty bullish as of right now to me, but we'll see.
Good morning everyone GM Scott
Comments on CAVA and what you think is going on with the stock price would be appreciated. Seems like good old fashioned profit taking after a monster run.
CAVA - the panel was bulled up yday at highs - can you guys do a post mortem and lessons learned? I didn't add anything, I just held and will continue to hold as long as it holds the 10-week. For the add that SwingTrader did, we talked about where the exit would be! Disappointing action for recent buyers, but those with a low cost basis
in my view can continue to hold.
Is APP forming a high tight flag? I'm not that great at recognizing all of the patterns quite yet. It's a short stroke in spirit
Mahalo Justin - how do we find the $Vol in mktsurge? Multiply average daily volume by share price. You can also screen by dollar volume using the screener tool and can set up 50 day avg $ vol as a column in the list panel. Contact [email protected] if you need more assistance!
Good morning! What's up with NU? Mixed earnings.
Without too much pause let's please follow up on Ali's mention of the XLE showing new signs of life on last night's SMT. What stocks are the leaders there now. XLE +.56 at the open at the $95 level. …. before it gets away. Thanks Ira, we're watching XLE closely. Is the sector bottoming? Worth thinking about. Crude oil still below $70/brl. But nat gas rising again ahead of winter, on cue.
APP Reach an all time high this morning . . . . It's a stock that just won't quit! I had to hop on the train on Tuesday and give it a shot — even if it doesn't work out.
BZH is a minor player in the home builders - but in the face of the sector entering a downtrend amidst higher interest rates stock gapping out to 52wk highs on earnings Messy chart and declining earnigns so it's not for me — but interesting to see what it's doing today
Love the long term holds on your webinar! Thanks, Julie ... Appreciate you
ZIM b/o Looks interesting, but I don't have enough conviction in this one to buy this one less than a week before earnings
ALAB - pullback normal ? Add here ? Clearing the highs over the last few days could be a spot for aggressive traders, but hopefully it keeps forming this base and lets the 21-day line catch up
could you please say SMH….its down so low…i kind of missing Unfortunately we are seeing rotation out of chip stocks this week. NVDA, which many of us own, stands out as the best-looking one right now in my view. But earnings next week could change that, we'll see
NET Wild bars, hitting resistance. It's a pass for me
what happened to CAVA. Round trip after earnings Disappointing for sure for recent buyers. I think those with lower cost basis, like myself, can continue to hold as long as it respects the 10-week line.
SMH will it still do down Hi Chiayen, welcome to the show. Yes, SMH has been choppy since six weeks ago. Looking at a daily chart, though, for now, pls notice that the trading range is narrower and it's continued to post higher highs. So, I'd say the picture remains
decently bullish. Still up since a boost off the 50-day line two weeks ago. Cheers, Hatman -- https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/50-day-moving-average-identifies-buy-sell-signals/
Good morning Ali.I am a big fan of you.We also talked about you on webby walk on last sunday. One thing i want to ask to you is ,are you mostly focus on weekly chart to do sell signal right? You try to be patience until the stock closes below
10 weekly line right? For example. SPOT right Ali?Thank you.
Hi! Sounds like y'all had a fun walk! Yes, when possible I really do try to turn my focus to the weekly chart for holding/selling once I establish a profit cushion – so I will be doing that for SPOT and will do my best to hold as long as it
holds the 10-week (even will try to hold minor violations of that level).
Good Morning, what about CFLT, high earnings and new ant yesterday I think it's a laggard in the space. While it could be turning around and start to work here, it's not a chart pattern that I'm attracted to. I prefer seeing stocks that are in established uptrends.
SCHW gap up into the BZ Breaking out and seeing relative strength lately, but notfor me. Sales and earnings are very sluggish
COST Team recently discussed. Thanks for submitting your request!
Further to the R2000: do we have an equal weight for that, like QQEW? 🙂 Looks like that doesn't exist, just did a quick web search. Invesco may have had one at one time but the ticker is defunct.
Not sure if y'all know that ibdlive.com is a domain for sale and if you type that in your browser you get led to the site selling it. FYI Thanks for letting us know!
Good Morning, any thoughts and assessment on POWL would be appreciated Depends on where you got in. I could see some traders using the 21-day line as a first line of defense, but for those who bought the breakout, could use the 50-day/10-week to keep you in.
sbux Early in a turnaround phase. Keeping note but I'm not a buyer here
Any idea why ARM is not updating on Market Surge? Looks like it's updating to me!
Arnie and Scott delivered a great webinar. Illuminating two different investment strategies in one session. And my mantra is also: "Weekly first!" Thanks guys. Tom, glad you enjoyed the webinar. Definitely 2 styels lol
CHWY looking interesting. Yes, clearing a bottoming-type base with a pretty healthy earnings line.
CAVA - valuation valuation valuation Yeah, I think that's it.
I missed Arnie and Scott on the Holding Winning Stocks, can you please provide a link or tell me where to look thank you Hi Joseph https://www.investors.com/ibd-videos/videos/how-to-hold-a-stock-for-the-long-run
Morning, thoughts on POWL Depends on where you got in. I could see some traders using the 21-day line as a first line of defense, but for those who bought the breakout, could use the 50-day/10-week to keep you in.

Thanks Rachel for your sensitive comments on CAVA for some of our listeners (not in Cava) live answered
Where do I find the Arnie and Scott Podcast? Hi Leslie ... Here is the link https://www.investors.com/ibd-videos/videos/how-to-hold-a-stock-for-the-long-run
HEI? We added it to Leaderboard Wednesday and raised it today. Nice follow through in heavy volume today.
alot of red here indexes aren't moving much, but several growth stocks under pressure below the surface. Been that way for a few days now.
As Webby says keep an eye out on NVR to see the health of the building sector Good point, Ronald. NVR looks at lot like the XHB, ITB and industry group chart.
HEI Was our stock of the day a few days ago, turns out that was a good choice!
CAVA: The stock has a habit of aggressive profit taking after an earnings report. The last earnings report on Aug 22, the stock dropped 14% over the next 6 days DESPITE great report. It took another 7 days to recover back to the earnings report
high. If the same happens this time and it takes another 7 days to recover to its high price at the opening. The report in June was also good, but profit taking was even more brutal and took over 53 bars to recover.

GM Arnie, since you think the market is due for a correction, are you reducting any of your positions? Thank you, Darrell I weight to see what happens with the NASADAQ ... And how the leaders begin to react ...NVDA; META ; NFLx ... I can easily see 5-10 % healthy pull back . I very rarely will reduct position, if I have conviciton in the stock
FWIW the I sold CLS yday after pounding the table on it 8/7. Nice gain!!
APP - yah, so the ? is, why didn't ST get back in on 9/11? At the time, we felt we needed to be so precise with our entries. App was the first mover even when the market was still looking shaky. By the time the market improved that morning, APP seemed extended to that precision we were demanding.
An unfortunate interpretation.
RDDT --- Please take a look, tight action? Looks like a hold. I'm not seeing a new buy point yet
Justin- how are handling rklb? I took a little profit and scaled back a little. I wasn't ready for it to become my largest position!
You all make my day, M to F! The voices of reason. Great to hear Julie. Thanks so much for the nice comment.
I own AppLovin, thanks to you guys, since $91, and I'm so happy with it I rebranded it as App❤️in live answered
It's v unfortunate that all of you who had FOMO and went ahead and bought this did not let the rest of us peons who believe you when you say wait for position believed you. We spent a ton of time yesterday talking about how some traders will opt to use a different, more aggressive playbook for a strong bull market. We talked about unconventional entries, managing risk, what to look for, etc. with "mental health
buys" or "FOMO buys" — We always disclose when we are buying or own something.
Ali have you kept your position on CAVA ? Yes, my primary hold rule is the 10-week line
Holding Winning Stocks was a great presentation! Thanks Laurel
When a stock acts like CAVA and gaps up on earnings and then fades, and approaches the 21 day, how often does it work out. Or do you have to wait for the recovery and then put your thumb over the day? Only in hindsight we will know if it was a sell signal for the top or will continue to go on a run and just a time where it got overheated in the short term. HEI has had several downside reversals off highs and has continued to work. But I'm
sure there are many examples of downside reversals off highs that mark a sell signal at the top
too extended to initiate? Still within the 0-5 % pivot range... When it gets above the rage ...we consider that over extended.
Hi. New to the show. 2 questions. Good entry point to AMZN? And quick assessment of CW please. Got in at $386.18. What would my exit point be using MA? TIA Hey Shulamit! Welcome to the show. Unfortunately we cannot answer any question where you disclose your ownership of a stock. You can ask us about tickers, but we can't provide individualized advice. Best entry for AMZN recently was when it
crossed $200 on the breakout. Check out investors.com/LiveFAQ and bookmark that page for a ton of helpful resources! Welcome once again 🙂
For ZETA, what would you look for to get back in? Or is it just a pass now with a ton of overhead supply and having broken so many moving average levels? There's a lot of concern that this a scam or semi-scammy.
Arnie nice point about speed off the bottom and reclaiming key MAs - thanks! Yes sir... Appreciate you Frank !
half of the show talking about your holdings (NU) To be fair, Arnie was the one that asked him to go back to make a point.
Ed, SPOT is wow!! Great action.
Question: What is your general opinion on: "Buy the Dip." Personally, I don't buy weakness. But if you have a stock in a long-term uptrend that has short-term weakness, I have no problem buying on the bounce.
Chris, did you have a stop that got you out of ZETA relatively unscathed? I believe the decline was steady but not a gap. Hope you weren't too beaten up. I closed out my position when it took out the low that occurred 40 min into the session. At the time the stock was down 17.7% but my loss was 7.4%. So my 50% hedge actually gave me almost 58% protection as the delta jumped.
Ali CAVA thanks! followup is edcuational. You bet! I agree
Chris, our observation of a follow through of >2-3% after >15% is working on both SHOP and SPOT. I will keep observing and report later. I was surprised at how strong SHOP was yesterday. Might test its gap low but I'd like to see it build a shelf. SPOT showing great strength, especially with the market down a bit today.
RELY It's on my watchlist. I think it needs to consolidate a little longer.
Wow Ed MO is smoking Heh.
MO
Zyn oral nicotine pouches are what is adding to the push. Thanks for that. Love when crowdsourcing the questions provides insight.
Since when has IBD Live been around? Chris Gessel should get a medal for this. IBD Live almost replaces a stock club. Here in Germany, stock culture is growing again - after a long sleep after 2000/2001. And the presence on YouTube is exactly
the right way to go. As far as I know, there is no IBD group in Germany.
We just had our five year anniversary on Nov. 6!
TSM looks bad… lower highs and lower lows, below declining 5 day sma, resistance at declining 21ema this morning, and below Monday gap down AVWAP, having said that it could setup in the next couple days The trade battle with China is really hurting it. The 10-week, 50-day test will be key.
Doea market Surge show us the Average True Range? I dont see how. Yes. You can put it in as a column for your lists under the customize columns. Currently it is a price that you have to translate into a percentage but we are working on some changes there to make it easier.
Chris--thanks. I am filing this for future crisis management (which I hope I won't need often). Good thing you didn't get killed! That's why I am committed to earnings half hedges.
I think PSN and some other government contractors are getting hit by "The New DOGE" effet. The "Department of Government Efficiency" hasn't even been created yet, but it's already changing our world. Good point. Govt consultants might be an easy way politically to score points.
Can we add ATR% 21 to the data table? Yes. But I just added it and restarted MS but it is not filling the column with the values. We're checking into it.
Do we have an Earnings Date screen capability? Say exclude stocks that report within 5 days. Yes! There is an EPS due date that you can put in as a screen item or column if you want to sort a list by that factor.
please define atr Average True Range
Define Average True Range It measures a stock's volatility and in our case, in percentage terms looks at the average move a stock has over a given period
So i have a question on the Timeliness rating. Why does it frequently show a "A" rating even when the stock is extended well above the pivot point, i.e. much more than the +5% limit normally used in the IBD approach? To be honest we don't use the timeliness rating. We use the composite rating and RS rating much much more
Pls provide Video or training explaining the use of ATR? We will make one!
Where do you log out of MarketSurge? on the home page marketsurge.investors.com
I just populated 21 day ATR% on my Marketusure list, logged out, logged back in, the that column does not show anything. What do I do? [email protected] for help
HIMS - compounding is a massively profitable business but its hard to scale - HIMS is making an impressive effort. But, the weight-loss stuff could be taken away quickly.
Can you adjust the ATR ? Right now we are working on rolling out a 21-day and a 50-day ATR
I was able to add the 21 atr column, however, there is no information. Anything I need to do? We are investigating
Can sort list in mobile with closing range option ?
Would be very helpful to sort lists by closing range to see what is holding best and worst !! Submit your request to [email protected]
I actually did like HIMS stock, fundamentals, 8 week hold rule... but I dont see how we justify holding that round trip. I asked Bill if a roundtrip of a 10% gain was a sell signal. He said he would always sell.
It's great to screen for ATR, but it would really be more helpful if it was based on %. I know you're working on it, so thanks for the great work you all do! It is based on the percentage value. That was a big change from the old one.
Holding winning stocks take away was two key thing Making a list for my held positions and another list for positions sold. Life changing. Thank you so much Arnie & Scott. Appreciate you both Glad you enjoyed the webinar ... Thank you for your kind words.
FLUT looks better than DKNG Certainly. Higher RS Rating. 89. DKNG at 66. That said, DraftKings also showing better action lately. 3-month RS 85; 6-month RS 80.
SPOT ripping up! What a great move on earnings! And, the move after the 9/19 breakout was telling. It would pull back, but not enough to trigger IBD-style sell rules. Kudos to those who bought this one or held for a while. https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/what-is-stock-breakout/
Thanks Ali. YW Shulamit. Welcome to the show! Hatman
TSLA coming in live answered
ERJ live answered
If TSLA would consolidate at 300, that would be nice That would be a good spot.
I like when ed has to talk about that dreaded tesla stock, lol Ha!
Wonder which builders will get the inside track when Trump starts releasing federal land for building houses on? Not sure if federal land is the most important issue, given that urban housing is what's tight.
Please review MELI. Thanks live answered
Chris...on CAVA with your 1/2 hedge....would you get a wash for the up 16% then gave it all back...or does that net you some? thanks much I took it off too early yesterday, so I didn't get any benefit when the stock slid back. Actually no reason to remove it until the end of the day or even week.
Nice job Chris getting CRWD on the rally day moving thru 50 day Thanks so much Phil. I like the stock and seems like it should be able to shake off the July problem.
Ed, wait for weekly close on NU -- Buffets got your back That's something I'm considering.
Arnie - RBLX won't come back and let me in ! :-0 Hhahahahah
Thank You guys! Will be rewatching again today,… Awesome
Thanks everyone Cheers Brian
Thank you. Great show! Thanks Payam! Be well.
