Origin Energy (ASX:ORG) approved the third stage of its large-scale battery project at Eraring Power Station in New South Wales, increasing its dispatch duration to about four hours, the energy company said in a statement Thursday.
The third stage will add 700 megawatt-hours to the 460 megawatt/1,070 megawatt-hour first stage under construction, the statement said.
The combined energy storage of the battery will be 700 megawatt/2,800 megawatt-hours, with the 240 megawatt/1,030 megawatt-hour second stage also under construction.
Stage three is expected to come online alongside stage one by the end of 2025, while stage two is anticipated to come online in the first quarter of 2027, according to the statement.
Origin Energy shares rose nearly 1% in recent afternoon trade Thursday.
