Rocket Lab's shares continued to rise 9% on Tuesday. The space company's shares have rocketed 370% higher this year at the time of this writing, including a stunning 107% surge in the past 30 days alone. This momentum has pushed Rocket Lab's market capitalization above $13 billion.
Rocket Lab USA has won up to $23.9 million in direct funding from the US government as part of the federal CHIPS Program, the US Department of Commerce said Monday.
The award is meant to support US production of space-grade solar cells that power spacecraft and satellites including missile detection systems, the James Webb Space Telescope, NASA's Artemis program, the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter, and the Mars Insight Lander.
The funds will be disbursed as the company completes project milestones, the statement said.
Rocket Lab USA also said Monday it launched its 56th Electron mission, deploying five satellites into low Earth orbit for French Internet-of-Things company Kineis.
The mission lifted-off from the Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in Mahia, New Zealand, and occurred nearly 22 hours after Rocket Lab completed a mission from Launch Complex 2 in Virginia, "setting a new company record for fastest turnaround between launches," it said.
