Dear VC, can you please improve our farming industry?

It’s easy to be cynical about venture capital and the young and not-so-young deal makers talking about purpose and getting ridiculously rich in their white sneakers off founders’ blood, sweat and tears. For every Canva or Culture Amp they’ve backed, there are hundreds of millions of dollars blown on dud investments. It’s the sort of stuff you’d expect farmers to rile against.

But it is interesting to get the perspective of a steady, old-world farming industry that has turned to venture capital for rapid help with a major structural headwind and to try to capitalise on the growth opportunities at Australia’s doorstep.
