Alpha HPA (ASX: A4N) said it started concept studies for its planned alumina facility in Alberta, Canada, named Alpha Polaris, in partnership with mining and infrastructure solutions providers Orica, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.

The move follows a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2022 with Orica to explore deploying Alpha's HPA First technology near Orica's operations in Alberta, the filing said.

Based on strong customer engagement, Alpha has conducted preliminary assessments of the potential project capacity and now aims to work closely with Orica management on the feasibility studies for the Canadian site, the filing added.

The company also said the project activities for stage 2 of the HPA First Project in Gladstone are progressing on schedule.

In October, Alpha conducted a US marketing campaign targeting DLE brine developers and sorbent technology providers assessing Alpha's aluminum trihydrate materials.

This effort, involving a range of industries from technical services to petroleum majors, led to increased demand and the successful development of the company's high-purity amorphous aluminum trihydrate as robust granules.

Test orders for granulated aluminum trihydrate will be delivered in December, the company added.
