0927 GMT - Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index rose 0.4% to close at 3799.94 on positive sentiment. Volatility was subdued as the VIX Index, also known as Wall Street's fear gauge, edged lower, Saxo Markets' strategy team said in commentary. This reflects optimism amid strong equity performance and easing worries over near-term risks, the team added. Among the best performers on the benchmark index, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding rose 2.8%, Sembcorp Industries added 1.7% and Jardine Matheson Holdings was up 1.2%. Among decliners, Thai Beverage fell 4.2% and DFI Retail Group shed 2.7%. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
