STI snaps six-day streak to close 0.69% lower at 3,796.16 points

Throughout the day, the STI did not cross its previous close of 3,822.68 points.

The Straits Times Index (STI) snapped a six-day streak to close 26.52 points lower, or 0.69% down, at 3,796.16 points on Dec 6. 

The index reached an intra-day low at its close price. It had reached an intra-day high of 3,816.17 points at around 10.30am. 

The STI did not cross its previous close of 3,822.68 points, notched on Dec 5. The STI had reached an intra-day high of 3,842.71 points right before the midday break on Dec 5, marking a 17-year high.

The index had crossed the 3,800 level on Dec 3. Its all-time high was 3,906.16, notched in October 2007. 

The STI is up 23.37% year to date. Ahead of the 1HFY2024 results season, shares of Singapore’s three local banks advanced in July, bringing the STI above the 3,400-mark for the first time in two years. The STI reached a six-year high on July 10. 

While the STI fell the following month to the 3,200 level, it rebounded and crossed 3,600 points in late-September.
