Gitlab co-founder Sid Sijbrandij is stepping down as chief executive due to focus on his health, including treatment for cancer.
The company, which provides cloud-based software-development tools, named Bill Staples as its new CEO, effective Thursday.
Staples previously served as CEO of New Relic and has also spent time at Microsoft and Adobe in executive leadership roles. He will also join Gitlab's board.
Sijbrandij, who will transition to executive chair of the board, said he plans to focus on his treatment for cancer and his health.
"My treatments are going well, my cancer is not metastatic, and I'm working towards making a full recovery," he said.
