Bank Muamalat Holds Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, Appoints New President Director and Plans Business Refocusing

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPT Bank Muamalat Tbk. (BBMI) appointed Imam Teguh Saptono as the new president director at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGM) on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The Acting President Commissioner of Bank Muamalat, Andre Mirza Hartawan, said the bank will continue refocusing its business on the consumer retail segment.

"The main segments that will be the focus of Bank Muamalat are the business segments of Hajj and Umrah, retirees, hospitals, education, and civil servants (ASN)," said Andre in a written statement, Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Andre, who led the EGM, stated that the new official would effectively serve after obtaining the assessment of capability and appropriateness from the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

In addition to the new President Director, Bank Muamalat also appointed Sapto Amal Damandari as the Independent President Commissioner. Meanwhile, Andre will later assume the position of Commissioner.

Furthermore, the shareholders of Bank Muamalat also approved the recovery action plan required by OJK. This is outlined in OJK Regulation Number 5 of 2024 concerning the Determination of Supervision Status and Handling of General Banking Problems. The action plan, he said, aims to address the bank's financial issues.

Moreover, Andre stated that Bank Muamalat will maximize the Muamalat DIN mobile banking application. Other digital ecosystems, such as internet banking to Cash Management Madina, will also be maximized.

"By continually improving the quality and innovating digitally, it is hoped that customers can experience seamless, safe, and comfortable banking experiences," he stated.

As information, as of November 15 and 16, 2021, the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) officially became the Controlling Shareholder (PSP) of Bank Muamalat after receiving share grants from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and SEDCO Group. BPKH's total share ownership in Bank Muamalat became 82.65 percent. Apart from BPKH, shares of Bank Muamalat are also owned by IsDB at 2.04 percent and other shareholders with a portion of 15.31 percent.
